moth is online
5 March 2026
i've wanted to make a development blog for a little while. the plan was to make it at a way bigger scale, but i think i've finally hit the limit on bloating my ideas until the scope is too big. at a certain point, you become very aware that you're not gonna get that time back.
i want things at a tiny scale now, to know that i'm improving. a tiny little blog with a simple style that I can build incrementally.
the internet and a sense of place
i have maintained, for a long time, that it's useful to see the Internet as a map that reflects our physical spaces. even more so now that it's a social location: we have public squares, neighbourhoods, high streets with shops. but we're also, progressively, seeing third spaces again. every new digital gardening or indie art project is a small piece of the fight against online gentrification. i've recovered a lot of optimism in seeing those around.
in response, i'm planting my flag in this place: a little blog on creative process at a rough and unpolished level. you'll see works in progress, and maybe a little ramble or two, if I feel that it's relevant. doing this is a little SCARY to me in particular (someone with almost certain ADHD who does not like appearing unreliable), but that fear is also not bigger than me. it feels like a bit of a north star.
the biggest priority is that you get some insight into what i'm up to creatively. it's soil and some seed starters. the appeal is that i don't know what they'll grow into yet - some will live, others will die, but either way i will learn to look after the ones that work out.
listening to a lot of this album latelynext up
my next idea for the blog is to make an RSS feed, something i know next to nothing about. i have friends who have become fond of newsletters, and wonder if they could opt into something like that. i'll make sure to include a tutorial as i find out.
creatively, i have an entire curriculum i've made from the ground up at the end of last year. if i take it any seriously, then you'll see me be pretty busy this year!
see you again,
moth
